Aim of the project is the conduction of a human intervention study to confirm the results obtained by animal studies (refer to project 1.8). We investigate different biomarkers of colon carcinogenesis to clarify the potential of cloudy apple juice in the prevention of the »metabolic syndrome«. Together with the results obtained by the project partners from Jena, Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe we expect to find similarities in accordance with the results obtained already in animal studies. Our main focus is the investigation of parameters of the immune system, antioxidant level, energy level and the identification of growth factors in blood, that looked upon as risk factors for developing colon cancer. Furthermore, we’ll investigate stool water and isolated lymphocytes of the collectives to identify protective mechanisms on signal transduction and gene expression.
